Do you sometimes find yourself on a roller coaster of ups and downs in your emotions? Well, I have, and still do from time to time, but I stand on the Word of God to bring me back on the road to Truth.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3 KJV
I marvel at how fast I can be led down a path of feeling sad. Did you ever see the Disney movie “Up”? Do you remember the dogs “Dug” and “Alpha”? Throughout the movie they were often immediately taken away in their thoughts and would say “Squirrel!” as they whirled their heads around in frantic lust to the false idea of a present squirrel. They were able to focus on nothing else until they realized the squirrel WAS NOT THERE. Then they continued on their regular course without concern or worry. This is somewhat true with us. We can quickly and easily be led away by the FALSE IDEA OF HOPELESSNESS.
It’s our responsibility to be aware of our thoughts and to take action the moment we begin to be drawn away by NEGATIVE THOUGHTS THAT PRODUCE HOPELESSNESS. This is how we do it. I love the New International Version of this scripture:
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
Feelings are fleeting, not always necessarily TRUE. Here’s where discernment comes in. We need to ask God for Wisdom, and when we do, He tells us what is True and what is False concerning our thoughts.
God gave us the ability to choose our actions and tells us to be aware of ourselves and take action to apply the Word of God to our character. This is what brings us back to our regular course without worry or concern.
Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1:23-24 NIV DON’T FORGET, STAY FOCUSED ON THE TRUTH!
How wonderful it is when we are able to overcome our enemy by simply trusting Jesus and applying His Word to our flesh. The Truth is always the Truth no matter what it feels like.
On a journey of healing and hope with you,
Terri Lynne
