Our thoughts, feelings, and actions do not dictate who we are, nor who's we are. Nor do they truly describe our final destiny.
"The thoughts of the diligent tend ONLY to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty ONLY to want." Proverbs 21 KJV
The keyword that Solomon is speaking to us here is ONLY. The diligent person's thoughts are ONLY towards plenteousness. This person for the most part of his or her's daily routine is toward plenteousness, but likely sometimes not. Contrarily, the hasty person's thoughts are ONLY towards want, or lack, caused by hastiness, greed, sloth, debauchery, God's judgments, and/or physical need, but likely sometimes not.
It is not practical nor beneficial for us as Christ-followers to worry or grieve the two natures within us battling for our destiny. God the Father has given us His Spirit through His Son Jesus Christ to keep us and sustain us until He takes us home.
"THE LORD is thy keeper; THE LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. THE LORD shall preserve thee from all evil, HE shall preserve thy soul. THE LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." Psalm 121:5-8 KJV
We must have a deeper understanding of our Lord's love for us. It is critical to remind ourselves that He chose to willfully come here to earth, leaving His Heavenly home, to become flesh, to take on the carnal nature, when He was ONLY God. This was the ONLY way to reconcile us to the Father. He lived IN THE FLESH, feeling everything we feel. He understands the battle with our emotions, feelings, thoughts, and reactions. He knows it is impossible for flesh to live HOLY apart from Him.
When we are discouraged, we must remind ourselves that we are his children, and our character is in Him. Gradually we are taking on his nature through the Holy Spirits' help and guidance. When we sin, and we will because of the carnal nature, we need not be discouraged, but to come to Him with repentance, strength, and healing, and AS WE DO, we become more and more like Him. IT IS WHO WE ARE. This is the truth. We will always sin to some degree as long as we are in these mortal bodies, but we BECOME and ARE more of who He called us to be as we decide to GIVE ourselves to listening to His Word and letting it be our truth.
"Therefore, we come boldly before the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:15-16 KJV
For just as the fruit of the earth brought forth fruit of its kind, whose seed is in itself, the Holy Ghost came upon Mary and IN THE POWER OF THE HIGHEST she was OVERSHADOWED and the Holy thing, the Son of God was conceived IN MARY. God himself PUT HIMSELF AND HIS NATURE IN US, we had nothing to do with this but to receive it.
We can be confident that HE WILL COMPLETE his work in us as we stay in Him. Faith and works go hand-in-hand. James 2:14-17
