Tunnel Vision

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

According to medical professionals, Tunnel Vision is the result of a loss of peripheral sight or side vision in which a person can only see what is right in front of them and they should seek medical attention immediately if this happens. In terms of eternity and following hard after God's heart, it is completely the opposite. Tunnel Vision keeps us focused on God's plan for this lost and broken world. Without staying in Tunnel Vision mode we are easily steered away from what is most important eternally.

I don't know about you, but I have spent a lifetime trying to please myself but when God uses me to point someone to Him and they get saved, healed and in their right minds, there's nothing in this world that even comes close to that joy. The sense of emptiness that comes with gaining everything in this world is heavy and unsatisfying. We were created for so much more. You've heard the scripture:

"He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it". Matthew 10:39 KJV

Have you ever heard the term VPN? It means Virtual Private Network. I'll describe it as an iron-clad tunnel through the internet that is locked solid with no one getting in or out as one goes from website to website. The ride through the internet is completely protected from any attacks and leaves no trace or footprint. A VPN can be beneficial to anyone who wants to avoid being tracked on the internet. Having Tunnel Vision for the Lord's purpose for our lives is similar. Time is short and we are called to reach the lost. We can not let anything get in the way of our vision for eternity. We were sent by our Creator to live out our lives according to His purpose at such a time as this, let us not give place to anything else.

I was recently captivated as I watched our 4-year-old American Fox Hound run through the 2 1/2 acres of open grass. She suddenly stopped, dug her nose hard into the ground, then flung herself upside down in an uncontrollable wallow to some intoxicating stench. Of course, this was just moments after I had given her a bath. She wreaked all over again!

I fear that like the dog we could be found in that upside-down state wallowing in the stench of this life when the Lord comes, missing divine opportunities to reflect God's Love and healing to this broken world. It is too easy to waste precious moments thinking and planning our own lives. Our To-Do-List for the Lord right? Even the time spent pondering and figuring them out can be a culprit to deter us from eternity.

Let it not be so in us Lord! Send eternity into our hearts. Let our hearts break for the things that break yours.

"Don't compromise your integrity. Stand strong and follow God no matter the cost."

Consider with me this message to the apostle John to give to the church in Sardis in Asia by God, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and End, the Great I Am.

"But you (still) have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes (that is, contaminated their character and personal integrity with sin); and they will walk with Me (dressed) in white, because they are worthy (righteous)." Revelation 3:4 AMP

Let that BE US! Let us stay focused on God and His purpose as He will strengthen us, and remember, we are only made righteous through the precious blood of Jesus Christ and His work on the cross, not by our works. But, He did give us the will to choose to follow Him or not. Let's follow Him and hear the words:

"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:21

On a journey of Healing and Hope with you,

Terri Lynne
